When blood vessels become inflamed, your eye becomes red and the engorged vessels are visible on the eye. This can make your eyes extremely red. It might be a little irritating for your child but it is a common disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember5275\">In some cases, the pink eye recovers on its own. However, in a few cases a doctor has to be consulted. Your child will be very restless during this situation and it is highly recommended that he or she doesn\u2019t rub their infected eye as it can increase the redness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember5276\">Pink eyes can be caused by a virus, bacteria or an allergy. It may be due to a specific item, dust or even pollen. If she\/he played in a chlorinated pool, the red eye can be a reaction to the chlorine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember5277\">This infection can spread from person to person. Your child can get it by touching an infected person or by using the infected person\u2019s tissue, for instance. It can also be transferred by wearing the infected person\u2019s sunglasses or spectacles. Treatment depends on the specific cause and includes eye drops, ointments, pills, water flushes and comfort care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ember5278\">Symptoms of Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember5279\">What are the symptoms of pink eye? Symptoms of pink eye can vary depending on the cause, but common symptoms may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Redness in the white part of the eye or inner eyelids.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eye itching, burning, or discomfort.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excessive tearing or watery eyes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discharge from the eye that can be white, yellow, or greenish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crusting of the eyelashes, especially in the morning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sensitivity to light (photophobia).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blurred vision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember5281\">The severity and specific symptoms can differ based on whether the pink eye is caused by a viral, bacterial, or allergic reaction. It can also be highly contagious and often occurs alongside a respiratory or ear infection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allergies: Allergic conjunctivitis can be triggered by allergens like pollen, dust mites, pet dander, or certain chemicals. It&#8217;s not contagious and usually affects both eyes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Irritants: Exposure to irritants like smoke, smog, chlorine in swimming pools, or foreign objects can cause irritant conjunctivitis. This type of conjunctivitis is also not contagious.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact Lenses: Improper use or cleaning of contact lenses can lead to contact lens-related conjunctivitis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Newborns: Newborns can develop conjunctivitis due to blocked tear ducts or exposure to maternal vaginal bacteria during childbirth (neonatal conjunctivitis). Put it on your eye for a few minutes, three to four times a day. This eases the pain and helps break up some of the crust that may form on your eyelashes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protect your eyes from dirt and other things that irritate them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember5295\">If you suspect you have pink eyes or are experiencing severe symptoms, it&#8217;s advisable to consult a healthcare provider or an eye specialist for a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
